All Guardsmen to Note. In light of recent events, tis important to know.
Our current laws and punishments are detailed below. Once new copies have been created I expect ALL guardsmen to be carrying a copy of this on their person at all times. Copies of the Law, once available, can be procured from Command.
The King’s Law – Yew
6th Edition
Reigning Monarch: His Royal Highness, Lord Blackthorn, King of Britannia
Year of Publication: 390
Through royal decree and by my right as sovereign, I declare the crimes and punishments herein to be the law of this land; and charge both the Guardsmen Militia of Yew, garrisoned at Stonekeep, and the Church to uphold and enforce it

SECTION I – LOCAL BYELAWS
The following matters are subject to local rule only. Punishment can be found after each byelaw.
POACHING: Only nobility may hunt the King’s Deer. 3000 gold per deer.
TAXATION: Daily highway tax of 30 gold per head, or provisions and goods of equal value for each traveller and animal to be paid to a guardsman. 30 minutes imprisonment upon failure to pay.
SEARCHES: Citizens may be subject to searches for illegal game, items of wytchcraft, prohibited items, and stolen property. Seizure of articles in addition to the punishment for the relevant crime (i.e. poaching, smuggling (unless wytchcraft is witnessed) or stealing).
BEARING ARMS: It is forbidden within Yew or Stonekeep. Force will be used if requests to disarm are ignored.
SECTION II – PETTY CRIMES
These crimes may result in on-the-spot fines or suitable alternatives as means of payment if gold cannot be offered, such as labour. Punishment can be found after each crime.
LITTERING: Collection of litter and 20 gold per item.
SMUGGLING: Seizure of articles and 50 gold per item of wytchcraft, or 5 gold per nightshade without an alchemist’s permit. For serious breaches, see Heresy.
PUBLIC INDECENCY: Brawling (cessation), intoxication (imprisonment until sober and confiscation of alcohol) and exposure (cover up). 90 gold per act.
TRESPASSING: Removal from the building and 200 gold.
SLAUGHTER: Killing of any cattle, horse, pig, goat or sheep. 900 gold per animal.
STRIKING A CITIZEN: 1000 gold (half payable to the victim as compensation).
PROPERTY DESTRUCTION: Fine equal to three times the property’s value.
STEALING: Seizure of property and a fine equal to four times the property’s value.
SECTION III – SEVERE CRIMES
These crimes may result in a fine, lashes, branding and/or a period of imprisonment. Punishment can be found after each crime.
BRIBERY: Fine equal to the value of the bribe and 30 minutes imprisonment.
DISOBEYING A GUARDSMAN: 10 lashes and 30 minutes imprisonment.
FORNICATION/ADULTERY: 10 lashes, branding, and one night’s imprisonment.
HIGHWAY ROBBERY: 15 lashes, branding, a fine equal to four times the property’s value, and 30 minutes imprisonment.
ARSON: 15 lashes, branding, and a fine equal to six times the property’s value.
STRIKING A GUARDSMAN: Knocking, 20 lashes, 2000 gold (200 gold payable to the victim as compensation), and 30 minutes imprisonment.
KIDNAPPING/SLAVERY: Release of the victims, 20 lashes, branding, 4000 gold per victim (half payable to the victim(s) as compensation), and one night’s imprisonment.
INCITING UNREST: 20 lashes, branding, 10000 gold, and one night’s imprisonment.
SECTION IV – GRAVE CRIMES
These crimes will result in immediate imprisonment pending trial. Sentencing, if found guilty, can be found after each crime.
SPYING/INFILTRARION: Hanging.
PIRACY: Hanging.
DISOBEYING OFFICERS, NOBILITY OR MEMBERS OF THE CHURCH: 30 lashes.
STRIKING OFFICERS, NOBILITY OR MEMBERS OF THE CHURCH: Hanging or Burning, respectively.
HERESY/BLASPHEMY/WYTCHCRAFT/RELATIONS WITH NON-BRITANNIANS: Burning.
MURDER/ATTEMPTED MURDER/MANSLAUGHTER: Hanging.
TREASON: Hanging.
With the exceptions of spying, infiltration and piracy, the sentence for any hanging offence committed by nobility will be beheading, instead.
Co-conspirators, collaborators, assistants and harbourers of criminals will face the same punishment as though they had committed the crime themselves.
