With the go ahead now complete on the Militia fully exploring the volcano known as "The Underworld" with more force than the Corsairs, I arranged a little "outing" for us, initially postponed a week due to bad omens, we formed up and I had a force large enough to brave the insides.
My main goal was to ensure that all those present were prepared and steeled to enter the Abyss proper.......
Meeting at the docks, we set off.
The sail was brisk and mostly uneventful, I outlined the mission to those present and ensured they were prepared. Two or so wandering water elementals tried to block our path, but were soon cut down by militia strength.
Upon arriving on the sand beach that the volcano formed once it forced its way out of the ground, we moved toward the entrance.
Preparing, we dived in. Greeted by the sight of the defence force left by the king to stop the denizens escaping into Brittania, we pressed on. First order of business? Carving out some intact slime sacs from the acid slimes within, so we got to it.
Slimes are not the most sturdy of foes, so after a short time we had what we needed, as well as some sizzling armor to boot! Moving deeper into the complex, I spied the wall which held the first key fragment we needed, pouring on the acid we moved inside, intent on finding the key.
The key was mysterious, upon touching it, we all gained a copy of it! Strange magics at work, however with the Father present, I was nay concerned.
Commanding the troops forwards, we made our way into what seemed like a crypt, I had been here many times......
Starting to get bogged down by the never ending tide, I called a charge into one of the teleporters, and arrived in the poison elementals lair.... however it wasnt home, the first piece of real good luck we had!
Finding the second room, we proceeded to look for the key
With two keys in hand, I knew what was to come. The Abyss has a guardian you see, and only lets those worthy of entering pass, the rest, well.... it IS called the Underworld....
I knew we had to face him, but did not want to concern the troops, I knew we could defeat him, but would it be without losses?
It was now that Veteran Guard Radek was afflicted by sudden blindness, no doubt caused by this evil place, however it soon passed.
Moving forward, we jumped across the dilapidated and rickety walkways to find outselves face to face with the entrance to his lair, over the Abyss proper, falling here would mean the end.
Most managed through, however some required a little more coaxing....
Emerging into Tyballs lair, we found the fiend and he attacked in earnest. Spells and blows raining down..
We emerged victorious, granting us the final key fragment to enter the Abyss. Upon inspection, the key formed and dissolved in our hands, however a new found feeling inside us let us know we did all correctly.
Wanting to ensure the Abyss was now accessible, we made our way to the entrace, Sicarius "volunteering" to head in first.
Once he emerged back with us, we all stepped through, back into the Hellscape I wished never to revisit.......
This would need to be explored at a later date.... for now we had a date with some goblins, and spiders.
Moving back towards their lairs, we soon knew when the goblins were near....
We made it through and pushed into their camps, slaughtering those who opposed us, and managed to find the spider lairs. Quickly gathering materials that the crafters need for certain enhancements, I checked my notes and decided this was far enough.
We pushed our way back out and made it safely to the ship.
The sight of Yew was never more welcome than it was today on our return.
NOTE: Guardsmen, the complex still needs more exploration, therefore patrols and expeditions to the Underworld are now approved.
